Review of A Dream For Peace
[Following is a volunteer review of "A Dream For Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah.]
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's memoir, A Dream for Peace, details his struggles and victories. It details the author's life as an Algerian and his participation in the fight for independence from French colonialists.
This book had a lot of positive aspects. I was immediately struck by how simple the book was to read. This book's editing was superb, and I found no faults. Despite being lengthy, the novel succeeds in keeping the reader's attention throughout. I also appreciated how the images offered a strong visual experience. Another aspect of the novel that I adored was the way it was written, which made it impossible not to feel a deep sense of admiration for the main character. The reader is compelled to respect his tenacity, resolve, bravery, and zeal to serve wherever he found himself. Even the smallest elements of the author's life are included.
The author's view of women and their place in society was the first aspect of the book that I found objectionable. It struck me as being outdated, prejudiced, and misogynistic. The author spends a lot of time discussing the customs he was raised in at the beginning of the book, which bothered me. Although I could see why it was required for the setting of the novel, I thought it to be dull. It caused some portions of the book to read like a theory.
I would recommend this book to Algerian and Muslim readers. This is due to several factors, including the fact that the author is Muslim. The memoir is written in a way that Muslim readers will be able to relate to it better. Readers from Algeria may be more familiar with Algeria's history, and certain terms used in the book may sound more familiar to them. People who enjoy politics and history should read this book, in my opinion. I wouldn't suggest this book to those who are sensitive. This is due to the book's references to sexism, racism, war, and abortion.
I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. This is because there was nothing about the book that did not merit a perfect score. The story itself was incredible and inspirational, plus it had excellent editing and proofreading.
