Review of A Dream For Peace
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's inspirational autobiography, A Hope for Peace, is a reflection of the author's experiences. The events that occurred in the 1950s are well-described in this historical work. There are six hundred and forty-four pages and seventeen chapters in the book.
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was born in Aïn Beïda, Algeria during the time of the French colonial administration. He was born into a polygamous family as the sole child of his mother. The agony of his father's death had to be endured by young Ghoulem since his father was too old. Being a brilliant student, the author received help from his mother to pursue further studies. He received a scholarship to study medicine at a university in France. He started taking part in politics during his time in school and got better at it. In 1963, he graduated with a Ph.D. in microbiology from Indiana University, and he then went on to work as a professor at Yale School of Medicine. The author joined the foreign ministry of Cote d'Ivoire as an advisor in 1965. Before the president's death in 1993, he served as the ambassador and later the president's close advisor. He participated in several peace negotiations across diplomatic boundaries, such as the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Throughout the book, the author demonstrates great leadership qualities. His bravery was outstanding as he risked everything to fight against all types of discrimination and to free the African continent from colonialism. He has an admirable, selfless desire to encourage international peace. The theme of religious diversity and familial acceptance is made to evoke mindful acceptance by the author. His ardent love for his wife, Titi, is evident to the reader in spades. One can only imagine the courage he must have had since many religious leaders today oppose marriages between Muslims and Christians. He was a Muslim who married a Christian woman.
It's safe to say that this book has a lot of positive aspects. The author's use of photographs in his book helped to provide a detailed and relevant picture of those events, which emphasized the truth of his experience. In explaining complex diplomatic ideologies, I appreciated the author's detailed descriptions and storytelling. The book is accurately dated, and the well-written facts and behind-the-scenes scenarios make it even better.
The book doesn't have any negatives. There is not a single page in the book that is not intriguing and motivating. Despite the book's length, as I read I grew more intrigued by all the things the main character accomplished. Since it doesn't contain any sexual content or rude or profane language, it is inclusive of all racial and ethnic groups. The book seemed to have been professionally edited with a few minor errors, which did not deter the overall meaning of the book. In light of the aforementioned, I rate this book four out of four stars.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading motivational biographies. Also, for those who are interested in learning more about the history of Africa, every aspiring leader should study this book to develop excellent leadership skills.
