Dr. Berrah Ghoulem was born in Aïn Beïda, a small town in Algeria, to a humble Muslim family. His father died when he was still young, so his mother was in charge of watching him, and she did a fine job. Despite her illiteracy, she recognized the importance of a good education for her son and made certain he received the best. He studied medicine at the university and practiced it for a while. He also enrolled in law school and joined the army for a while. His decision to fight for the truth and against racism soon made him known, and before long, he started to make his mark in the world as a freedom fighter and peace keeper. He became particularly close to the President of Cote d'Ivoire and later became his special adviser. Their friendship was more of a father and son relationship than that of a president and subordinate.

A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is about his life and accomplishments and his dream to make the world a better place. It is honestly an inspiring book to read. There were a lot of parts that I enjoyed. The book was well documented and detailed. He touched every aspect of his life, both the highs and lows, and how he persevered through the lows. His book also contained research on the inhibition of bacteria that I believe science majors would find interesting. He was the first person to discover the synthesis of bacteria deoxyribonucleic acid in phenethyl alcohol, and this got him an award. His contribution to medicine is one the world wouldn’t forget in a hurry. Not only that, he also left his mark in politics.

The pictures scattered all over the book were something I particularly enjoyed. They were able to provide a pictorial explanation of some things. Although he was a well-respected person, he wasn’t afraid to show his romantic side. His willingness to fight for his love is something everyone can learn from. Although he and his wife, Tit, were of the opposite religion, there was no bone of contention. They both showed religious tolerance and even tried to learn about each other’s religion. No one attempted to convert the other to their religion or praise it as the better one.

I could find no errors after reading this 644-paged book. The author did a marvelous job as it was exceptionally well edited. Nor was there any profanity. All these enable me to have a good reading experience. It would therefore please me to give this book a rating of four out of four stars.

I would therefore recommend this book to readers and lovers of political issues and history. People in leadership positions or would-be leaders should give this wonderful book a chance as it will stir in them the spirit of oneness and unity.
