Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a non-fictional book that delves into the life and ordeals of Dr. Ghoulem. The book contains 644 pages, and it is divided into seventeen chapters. This book is a memoir, and it starts with the early life of the author. Ghoulem was born in Aï Beïda, in northeastern Algeria. The first chapter talks about his birth, and it delves into details concerning his family and the environment where he grew up. He was five years old when his father died, and his mother strived to give him the best form of education. After he completed his Cours Complémentaire program, his uncle asked him to delve into teaching but he disagreed because he did not want any affiliation with the French colonial administration. The first chapter also talks about Ghoulem's admission into the University of Bordeaux. The second chapter of this book delves into Ghoulem's life and ordeals as a medical student in France. Ghoulem started his life in France with the help of a Tunisian medical student. After a while, he received news about his mother's illness. Ghoulem traveled back home, and it was during this time that his mother died. At some point, he entered a romantic relationship with Antoinette. The third chapter talks about Ghoulem's arrival in Morocco. He met Dr. Abdelkrim El Khatib, Morocco's first surgeon. The book goes on to talk about his encounter with different forms of authority, and it also talks about his movement for the independence of Algeria.
A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is an intriguing work that was written with a first-person narrative. This book is not plot-driven; it is character-driven. The author did a good job of using simple and understandable words to describe the characters' actions, emotions, and environment. This book has a prologue, and it gives a sufficient idea of what the book entails. This book has a table of contents.
Ghoulem is an interesting character, and it is necessary to know that his life was not a smooth one. He encountered challenges, and it affected his lifestyle and mentality. He experienced racism, and he also experienced the adverse effects of colonialism. The details within this book are accurate, and I love the addition of specific pictures. I admire the friendship between him and his schoolmates, and I also admire his commitment and discipline.
I enjoyed every aspect of this book. I did not notice any negative aspects while reading this book. I learned a few lessons from this book. I learned that secularism does not imply ignorance or the absence of religious faith. Ghoulem's mother played a big role in his life. She inspired him to be the best even in the midst of unfavorable situations.
This book was well written. This book was exceptionally edited. I did not notice any grammatical or spelling errors while reading this book.
Colonialism is a good thing, but I believe that it has adverse effects on the environment that experiences it. I learned a lot from this memoir, and I believe that other readers will learn a thing or two from it. Therefore, I recommend this book to every lover of memoirs. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars due to the few points mentioned above and because of its enlightening content.
