Review of A Dream For Peace
For most writers, I think one of the most challenging tasks is to embark on a journey of writing a memoir book. You have to plot it out in such a way that it will appeal to readers. While most of the authors struggle with this, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was exceptional in bringing together an awesome book. It is titled "A Dream for Peace" by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah himself.
Dr. Berrah dedicated his life to the pursuit of peace in most of the third world countries and the whole world at large. He was a husband, a freedom fighter, a scientist, a diplomat, and a peace seeker. His interest in politics was aroused when he met fellow students during his tertiary education who had an interest in seeing his native country, Algeria, free from the French colonists. With a strong passion for peace, he even advocated for peace between Israel and Palestine.
The book is divided into seventeen chapters. It starts by introducing us to the early life of the author, from birth to university, and how he found himself in prison. In the middle of the book, the story usually revolves around the struggle to liberate African countries and his diplomatic missions. Later on, the author shared that he had had two failed marriages before encountering the successful one.
A Dream for Peace was exceptionally well written. I really liked the way in which each chapter was organized. Moreover, I enjoyed the way in which Ghoulem Berrah showed service through his career by working as a special advisor to President Félix Houphout-Boigny of Cote d’Ivoire. The obstacles that he faced as a student, in military service, and in politics made the book interesting. Indeed, he had a dream for peace; to be a part of Africa’s liberation. Because how can an Algerian find himself as a special advisor to the President of Cote d’Ivoire in another country?
Though the book is long, I did not find anything to dislike about it. I noticed a few grammatical errors, but I feel it’s not something that would prevent someone from enjoying this memoir. Moreover, this book does not contain profane language. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is interesting to find a book that is long and interesting at the same time. The pictures included in it were uplifting and played a vital role in beautifying this book.
In conclusion, I recommend this book "A Dream for Peace" to people who enjoy reading memoirs. In addition, I feel this book would appeal to politicians and anyone interested in politics. The author was very categorical in sharing useful diplomatic information. Most of the notable freedom fighters and Africa’s first presidents have been mentioned and written about.
