Review of 28 Disastrous Dates: A (Mostly True) Humourous Memoir
28 Disastrous Dates : A (Mostly True) Humorous Memoir by Poppy Mortimer is a humorous non fiction novel in which the author entertains us with funny recounts of horrible yet amusing dates she has been on.
Just as the name implies, the author shares with us twenty eight awful dates she has gone on and the lessons she learnt from them. She dedicates each chapter to a particular date and how the said date went. She starts each chapter with how she met the guy ,shares with us how the date went and ends with the lessons she has learnt from that date . We follow the dating life of the author as she moves from London to Australia and then to Los Angeles and back to Australia within the expanse of twenty years.
We see how talented the author is as she turns disasters into humor, I like the way she carries the reader along,I felt like we were having a one on one conversation, it was quite engaging. The author has an amazing sense of humor and I find her witty remarks hilarious.
Every woman reading this book must have had one or two horrible dates which makes the book quite relatable. It is amazing how one person can go through not one but twenty eight horrible dates and still continue to look for love, personally , I would have given up on the dating game before date ten. I admire the author's resilience to find love after going through such disasters called dates .I find myself laughing along with the author and also horrified by the acts of these men with her as well.
I like how the author did not make a man the center of her life but just as a plus as we see her being successful and finding happiness on her own . She shows us that compatibility is a must when looking for a partner and that we should also not try to please others by discomforting ourselves in the process.
There was nothing to dislike about this book,it was professionally edited as I did not come across any error while reading and it is deserving of a rating of 4 out of 4 stars . This book was refreshing and one of a kind, the kind of book that gets you hooked once you start and I am eagerly awaiting a sequel. I'd recommend this book to everyone looking for humor ,this book will definitely crack you up and at the same time also teach you a few lessons. I also recommend it to teens and adults who want to or are already navigating the dating pool as this book would show you things to look out for.
