Review of The MECE Muse
After a long, successful career in consulting, Christie Lindor in 2001 decided to write the book The MECE Muse for fellow consultants in the field. In the book, she wrote about her greatest achievements and her worst mistakes and how she would have overcome them if she had the knowledge that she had taken upon herself to write in the book. It's a book about the successes and failures, the dos and don'ts of the consulting world. The book is written in chapters and each chapter has relevant content that is helpful and informative.
In the book, she talked about how etiquette can build or break someone's professional career. She also advised consultants on how to boost their brands and gave some tips that have helped her all through her lifelong career in building her brand and making sure that her customers get the most value for their money. Through the rest of the book, she continued to give advice to continuing consultants and those who have just gotten into the game and need some hand-holding as they manoeuvre through their careers.
What I liked most about the book is the fact that the author took it upon herself to engage her audience all through the 20 chapters of the book. She incorporated questionnaires after every chapter to ensure that the reader got the most out of reading this book. It is also impressive how the author tried to shorten her points to simple and understandable sentences. This was nice because it showed that the author values her readers' time, and so she took it upon herself not to waste time by going through the corners and beating around the bush but went straight to the points that she was trying to make. This also made the book easy to read.
I do not have anything negative to say about this book. I found it to be very interesting and very informative even though I am not in the relevant career field that this book is dedicated to, I picked more than a few points that would help me in my career and life in general. It is important that I state that I did not spot any grammatical errors or spelling mistakes in the book, which led me to believe that the book must have been well edited and written.
This book deserves a 4 out of 4 rating because it was very professional, well written, easy to understand and a quick read. I also liked the fact that the author included quotes from other known authors in the book which added more weight and validation to her points. I’d like to recommend this book to all professionals, but specifically, those in the consulting profession as this book from even the title has been dedicated to them.
