From STUPID Divorce: The MANual by Vincent Fudge II the reader can expect exactly what the title implies: a manual for going through a divorce and trying to survive the loss of your relationship, fewer interactions with your children and your world turning upside down. The author speaks of all the ways he and his wife tried to fix themselves as individuals in order to fix their relationship, which was frail almost from the beginning. He finds a silver lining in the chaos of divorce by sharing his experience, from a male perspective, with his reader. The reader can find concrete advice for navigating divorce, in addition to reading the author´s path through it.

The negative aspect of the book is that Vincent Fudge II finds excuses for most of this actions and mostly finds fault in the other side, i.e. his wife, which lessens the effect of this books as a manual. I find that it is difficult not involving your emotions into writing the book when it is your divorce you are talking about, but the effect of the book as a manual is lesser for it.

One positive aspect of the book is that it is well edited, which makes it all the more pleasurable to read as the narrative simply flows. I did mention that the personal approach of the author had a negative side, blaming the spouse for the downfall of the marriage, but I find that comparing his marriage to a life that ended and the sorrow which comes with that, make the author and the book more approachable and human. A positive aspect of the book is also that Vincent Fudge II comes straight to the point when there is advice to be shared- from hiring a lawyer to attempting to stay as friendly as possible in the divorce, beacuse you still have relationships to maintain after the divorce is over.

I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars due to the fact that these sorts of books are not usually ´my cup of tea´, but I do respect the courage to bring emotions and the hurt you´re going through into public view. Furthermore, the book itself was pleasurable to read.

I would recommend this book to anyone going through a divorce, but more importantly, to anyone who would perhaps like to avoid the pitfalls in their marriage, since the author does mention a few and makes you think if you´re commiting the same mistakes.
