Review of A Dream For Peace
Do you wonder what people will say about you when you are no more? Nothing is more satisfying than living a legacy that will make people speak highly of you even when you are no more. A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a memoir that will show you that no matter where you come from, you can always be good.
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was a Muslim who hailed from Algeria. Life wasn't easy for him growing up. Algeria was colonized by France, and this made them learn more about France than about their own country. He was angry, just like every other person, but he wasn't going to let his anger get the best of him. He knew that if there was any chance that a change would occur in Algeria, people like him had to stand up and fight for their rights. His brilliant academic performance got him a scholarship, and this was just the beginning of his story. He began his political ambition while he was still in school. Unlike other African leaders, he intended to use his political power to benefit his continent as well as the people of Algeria.
It's been a while since I read such a voluminous book. Despite the voluminous nature of this book, I was still engrossed from the beginning to the end. I felt like I connected very well with this story, maybe because I'm also from Africa. Before reading this book, I only knew of my country, Nigeria, and South Africa's colonization story. People like Dr. Ghoulem Berrah influence a lot of lives without even knowing it. This is what being human should be all about. I remember the first time I read about Mandela. I couldn't help but cry. This book brought back those feelings.
There was nothing to dislike in this book. I find it hard to believe that a memoir can be lengthy and yet still be interesting. Another thing to learn from this book is how the author didn't let his religious beliefs cloud his judgement. A lot of leaders think that war is the only solution when there is dialog. However, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah made peace without anyone getting hurt, and I think this is something every leader today should emulate. I commend the author for writing this memoir. It will help people remember how wonderful the protagonist was.
4 out of 4 stars is the perfect rating for a book this good. Despite its lengthy nature, it was void of errors, which shows it was exceptionally well-edited. I would love to recommend this book to people who love reading memoirs.
