Review of The Warrior's Meditation
Richard L Haight’s The Warrior’s Meditation is a beginner-friendly, do-it-yourself guide to meditation and accessing the benefits of effectively practising the craft. In this book, the author contests popular meditation myths and proves the malleability of the practice by encouraging readers to explore different approaches best suited for the individual. Haight lays bare the fascinating science behind meditation and shows not only how it works, but why it works, and why it has been inextricable from Eastern wellness and spirituality for centuries. With the origins of the art and the author’s lengthy journey to demystify its secrets included, this might be the only book you need to read about meditation.
The Warriors Meditation is a book I enjoyed a lot more than I expected I would. As someone with no experience meditating, and with no particular desire to reach a spiritual awakening, I chose this book mostly out of curiosity, but I quickly discovered that the art of meditation need not be as complex and out-of-reach as I thought it to be. A spiritual awakening is certainly not the only positive outcome of meditation, and regular practice has been proven to greatly improve the quality of life in many aspects. Brief explorations of the history of the craft made this book both informative and practical, and the reader is never lost for long, as the author ensured to provide answers and solutions to any difficulties they might have encountered during the exercises.
The neat, simple writing used by the author for this book was perfect for the complex subject being addressed. The text was well-organised and incredibly easy to understand, and I found some of the author’s personal experiences to be entertaining. The editing was top-notch as well, as I was unable to find any errors, and overall, I had a seamless reading experience, save for moments when I had to put the book down to practice some of the exercises outlined by the author.
My rating of The Warrior’s Meditation is four out of four stars, and I recommend this book to readers who have been interested in meditation but have been unsure of where to begin. There are many benefits and the exercises are surprisingly easy to follow.
After only a few days of practising Concentration Meditation, one of the many approaches the author covers in this book, I found I am able to manage my stress more efficiently, and fall asleep quicker and easier thanks to a simple breathing exercise.
This book is suitable for most readers, but meditation should be practised with respect to any prior medical conditions. Enjoy.
