Bluewater Walkabout by Tina Dreffin is a book about the author's real-life circumstances she had encountered in her life. She is married to Peter and they have two teenage boys.

The family enjoys travelling together during the holidays and experiencing new cultures and meeting new people. This time they boarded a boat to South Africa. The author was terrified about the trip given that high crime rates were happening in South Africa at that time but she wanted to go regardless. The journey was a promise to her boys and she didn't want to break it.

The book describes all the adventures they had in South Africa from experiencing the beautiful beaches and wildlife and things going wrong when their boys went missing.

To Tina Dreffin the adventures in Africa made her find healing from her painful past. Earlier in her life before meeting Peter, she had experienced sexual assault numerous times. She never shared her painful story with anybody as she was ashamed of herself. The journey to Africa made her realise that there are people with more serious problems than hers. She found people who have no access to clean water, food and other hardships in their lives. Those experiences made her want to share more of her life to empower people, especially women.

I did find a few grammatical errors while reading the book, but they had no major impact on the story so my rating for this book is 3 out of 4.

The book has no strong sexual content so I would recommend the book to anyone willing to learn about real-life experiences.
