Review of Idiom Attack Vol. 1 Everyday Living (Korean Edition)
Idiom Attack Vol. 1 Everyday Living (Korean Edition) by Peter Liptak is a book that contains over three hundred idioms in both English and Korean. Although the book is meant for elites who seek to enrich their knowledge of the language, it has been written in a simple and easy way such that beginners can also benefit from it. Idioms are defined in the book to be words that have different meanings and are put together to have different meanings.
This book was written by two people and a translator. Peter was a teacher of English when he moved to Korea. Because of his passion for the Korean language, he did a masters degree in Korean studies and began writing children's books and poetry. He also helped foreigners. The other author is Mathew Douma, who grew up in Canada and went to Korea for the first time in his teenage years. He had a passion for the Korean language and currently works as an English consultant, among other things.
It was impressive how the author thought it wise to incorporate a guide on how to use the book in its first chapters. The book has been written in plain and simple English and contains translations of each paragraph that has been written in English to Korean. The book was also written in an orderly manner which was impressive. Books that contain two or more languages tend to be chaotic and hard to read.
While reading the book I did not spot any grammatical errors or typing mistakes. There were no editorial mistakes either. This led me to believe that the book was well edited and well written. I do not have any negative comments about the book. I however can only limit my observations to the parts that were written in English because I do not read or understand the Korean language. Therefore, I had no way of knowing if the Korean part had any mistakes.
I rate this book as 4 out of 4 because it was well written and easy to understand. I rate it like that also because I did not spot any errors for me to give it a lower rating. I also learned a few new idioms that I did not know about. The book had questions and stories that ensured that anyone using the book had understood or grasped the content to the maximum. I recommend this book to Koreans who would like to advance their knowledge of English.
