Looking for an extensive guide on how to prepare yourself for fatherhood? Do you not know what to expect during pregnancy and after? The First Time Father by Alfie Thomas is the book for you. In this book, Alfie Thomas thoroughly describes and explains the things to expect and prepare for as a soon-to-be dad before and after your little bundle of joy has been born. From how to deal with your partner's mood swings to how to change those smelly diapers, Alfie Thomas gets into it all. This book answers all the questions a lot of men struggle to find answers to when they are about to become fathers.
There are many things I absolutely adored about this book, the first being how this book is specifically made for men. Like I mentioned earlier, a lot of men struggle with what they should do in preparation for fatherhood and never really know where to get the answers as most books like this are written for women. This gem of a book precisely describes what men should and should not do, how they should adjust their lives for fatherhood, and when and where to start doing certain activities.
On top of that, I loved how well-educated Alfie Thomas is on this topic of fatherhood and pregancy. You could tell whilst reading this book that his knowledge wasn't coming from experience alone, but that this is someone that did a thorough research on all the things that come with fatherhood. He explains it so perfectly that first-time fathers who know absolutely nothing about the female body and have never taken any pregnancy classes will feel like they have been studying these things for years. He describes the biology and science behind pregnancy, the activities you have to be cautious of, and he even goes as far as telling you the sex positions that will be perfect for you and the baby. Trust me, it doesn't get any more descriptive than that.
Alfie also managed to sneak in a few jokes here and there, which made the book a light read and fun to go through. It was so well written and you could see that a lot of effort and hard work was put into the production of this book. There's nothing about this book that I didn't like, except a few typing errors here and there. Because of those typing errors, I'm going to give it a 3 out of 4 stars. Otherwise, it is the perfect guide on how to become a great father. I recommend this book for all the men out there that don't know where to look for information about pregnancy, childbirth, and fatherhood.
