Tales about the fight for freedom have always been told around Africa. While the goals were achieved, the journey to get those goals wasn't. Our heroes gave their all for this fight, and this is the story of one of those heroes. A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a memoir of a hero who gave his all for the fight for peace.

The author’s life began in a small town in Algeria at a time when Algeria was still a colonizee of France. He was born into a polygamous family and was the only surviving son of his mother. After losing his father at a very young age, his mother made sure everything was available to him, especially his education. He was awarded a scholarship in France to study medicine. During his studies in France, he was faced with so much discrimination, and being the outspoken person that he was, he refused to be oppressed and spoke up for himself. Angered by this series of discrimination, he led and joined different revolutionary groups. Even with all his revolutionary acts, he still achieved his aim of becoming a doctor and later a professor. In all the success he had acquired, he still did not forget his fight to curb discrimination in Africa. He was indeed an African hero and a patriot.

I am not a big fan of memoirs, but I must say that I loved this one. I enjoyed it because it touches on the real-life events that Africans face every day. I loved the doctor’s passion for helping people. It is good to see people who speak their minds without fear of punishment or imprisonment, and Dr. Ghoulem was one of these people. Even when he was imprisoned, he was still not afraid to continue to fight for his people. This book raised a lot of emotions and brought back the memories and tales of slavery and the colonization of Africans. The pictures included were good and they made my reading more fun.

There is nothing to hate about this book. This book is well detailed and very engaging. The narration will keep your ears itching for more. I must say that I admired his bravery and I loved how he strived for peace in all he was doing. The world needs peace, and we need to go the extra mile to achieve this.

I definitely give this book 4 out of 4 stars, not only because of the messages and lessons it contains, but also because I was never bored while reading it. It was also free of errors of any kind, and this shows that it was exceptionally well edited. I recommend this book to lovers of memoirs and historical novels.
