Review of A Dream For Peace
Memoirs provide insight into world events from an individual perspective and allow us to understand what a person felt and accomplished in a given time period. A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is one memoir that talks about a man who was constantly discriminated against, but it never stopped him from fulfilling his dreams.
The book starts with the early life of the author. He was born into a Muslim family in the eastern department of Algeria. He lost his father at the age of three, and his mom showered him with a lot of affection. Education was one thing his mother valued the most, and she ensured that her son gained it. He was racially abused during his days at Collège de Batna. He was an intelligent boy during his high school days, and he graduated with excellent grades. His uncle, Fodil, has forced him to stay and become a teacher, but he has never wanted that for himself. So, Fodil decided to let him travel to France to further his education. He lost his mother to an illness, the woman who had been the strong pillar in his life. Regardless of being a medical student, Dr. Ghoulem had a passion for politics. Take up this book to follow the author on his path to dreaming for peace.Memoirs are one of the best things to happen to literature.
This book is one of a kind. As an African, I felt a connection with the author. Despite all the discrimination and setbacks, he always made a good decision. Nowadays, in many African households, children are easily manipulated to make the wrong decision, which isn't suitable for them. Due to the difficult society he was born into, Dr. Ghoulem always knew what he wanted to achieve. I liked how he dealt with every struggle he encountered, like his failed marriage, discrimination, and the hardships of prison life. If there is anything I learned from the author's life, it is that it is always good to strive for what is right and what will be of benefit to a greater number of people.
There is absolutely nothing I disliked about this book. The book made me feel sad most of the time because of the challenges the author encountered and the compassionate life he still lived. He wasn't recognized that much in Africa. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah can be described not only as a freedom fighter but also as a peace-making activist. A man who fought against racism, colonialism and was always concerned with worldwide peace. During his lifetime, Dr. Ghoulem served as a special advisor, emissary, and ambassador, meeting with top political leaders from different parts of the world with the goal of making peace.
I’m rating this book 4 out of 4 stars . I found no errors in the book. This shows that it was exceptionally well-edited. I loved how the book ended. It left the readers with something to think about. I recommend this book to readers who love reading books that contain history and political affairs. For upcoming political diplomats, freedom fighters, revolutionists, and readers who love memoirs, you should also read this book.
