Review of A Dream For Peace
The book, A Dream for Peace, is Dr Ghoulem Berrah’s autobiography. It provides a thorough account of his struggle for peace both within and outside of Africa. Dr Berrah’s fight for peace began at a young age when he freely expressed his displeasure with racial prejudice, unfairness, and injustice. He fought these vices relentlessly throughout his life. In his pursuit of peace, he meticulously recounts his experiences and encounters with both allies and adversaries. The president of Cote d’Ivoire, a friend and father figure to him, was one of his most famous allies. He found a partner in President Houphouët with whom he could collaborate to realize his aim. They encountered various difficulties together and were able to resolve them. They laboured behind the scenes to bring Africa peace and empowerment.
Take a trip down memory lane with Dr Berrah and get a glimpse into the legend’s mind. Was he able to make his peace dream a reality? Here is an opportunity for you to take more than a glimpse into the past. Through the eyes of this selfless and intelligent man, we observe the decisions and actions that were made, which have resonated through time and have had a significant impact on the Africa of today.
His account of events captivated me. He told his narrative in the most simple, yet engaging way. It was as if I were watching a movie unfold on the pages of the book. He told his narrative in minute detail, without extraneous information, only leaving out matters of state, having national and international importance. His accounts were very specific in terms of dates and times. Including footnotes in the text made certain phrases used by the author simpler to understand. The photos and graphics he included also gave his stories more life and authenticity. They were perceptive and increased my regard for him.
Furthermore, I was captivated by the interaction between Dr Berrah, a Muslim, and his acquaintances of various faiths. Several times throughout the book, he stated that there were no significant differences between religions. He was friendly with non-Muslims and even learned about other faiths. He insisted no one should be forced to practice another religion. Everyone has the freedom to serve God in whatever way they see fit. He never missed an opportunity to highlight the similarities between these various faiths and the underlying unifying factor—God.
This book had nothing to dislike. Although there were only a few mistakes, it shows that it was professionally edited.
This was a journey of enlightenment I embarked upon with Dr Berrah. His story illuminated my way as I navigated the paths of Africa’s dark and dreary past. Therefore, I give this book a 3 out of 4 stars rating.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in political history because it provides various insights into the behind-the-scenes activities that led Africa to where she is today. I also advise it for individuals who recognize that religion is a choice. Several times, he elaborated on some major religious activities, but never intended to change anyone or their belief systems. All he tried to do was to highlight the similarities between all religions and the object of everyone’s worship—God. As a result, people who are religiously liberal and open-minded will find this book eye-opening.
