Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having a Bad Life by Lewis Kempfer is a memoir about his life and the challenges he went through from his childhood till his adulthood, his ups and downs and how he was able to overcome them with God's grace and direction. The toxicity and traumatic experience in which he grew up messed up his mindset and made him lose confidence in himself.

Lewis grew up harshly and roughly in life, a life I wouldn't wish for anybody but despite his experience, he sailed through it all. This book was an eye-opener to what some people experience in childhood. Although Lewis made mistakes, I don't blame him for how he took everything because in the end, we are all humans and everyone would feel the same way he felt.

Given that he was just a child but he had to succumb to all sorts of abuse from people older than him was so traumatising that he wanted validation from everyone he met. This book opens up a lot of things and teaches us that no matter what never give up and trust in God because God is always watching his children, helping them every step of the way through all the struggles and bad decisions we make.

It was exceptionally edited and I have nothing negative to write about this book. A real-life experience of how he survived a battle of self-loathing which he decided to share with all those who are going through what he passed through. Whatever you grow up with ends up becoming a habit whether good or bad. Another thing is if you don't love yourself enough, you will never be able to fully love someone because you expect everything you do to be judged which toys with your mind.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because Lewis said everything as it was and aimed at helping people who go through things like this especially trying to understand themselves at a very young age. He had a horrible childhood but in the end, he found himself and had faith in God.

This book contains explicit content so I wouldn't recommend it to young readers. To all those going through something, try this book out with an open mind and you will learn something from it. If you like authentic narrative with a bit of humour and bad decisions leading to a hope-filled life then this book is for you but read with an open mind.
