Review of The MECE Muse
Christie Lindor in the first section of The MECE Muse she spoke about the mindset of great consultants. She advised consultants to make maners their competitive advantage and boost their personal brand as a low-hanging fruit. She also encouraged them to network and also taught them how to balance their lives as consultants. She also urged them to always celebrate their wins.
In the second section she talked about the performance and conditioning of great consultants. Here she urged them to make the most out of their downtime to build a consulting career toolkit that lasts. She encouraged consultants to ramp up on engagements and make the best of life in team rooms and to nail the deliverables each and every time among others. She dedicated the last section to talk about reflections of a consulting career. This began from chapter 17 which was on shaping the consulting experience. On the next chapters she talked about following the traditional consulting path, exploring non-traditional consulting careers, which she encouraged and making decisions that mattered in preparation for consulting in the future.
I gained a lot from this book, although I am not a consultant I can easily use a lot that I have learned in this book in my legal profession. Mostly because they are both involved with a lot of human interaction and consultation. I liked how the author attempted to involve her audience by including questionnaires in the book. As a reader I could really feel her passion and motivation to ensure that every reader could get something that would be beneficial and useful to them. I also liked how she included charts which made it more interactive and less monotonous.
I however feel the book had a lot of repetition of points which to some extent made the book redundant. I did not spot any other issue in the book and I believe it was well edited as I did not spot any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. The book did not also contain any vulgar language which was great.
I rate this book as 3 out of 4 Because I related to the book so much. I gained a lot that is going to help me in my career. Likewise, I also would like to commend the author for her dedication in mentoring and nurturing good consultants. A lot more books should be written like this. I recommend this book to consultants, although members of any profession can pick a thing or two from the book.
