Review of The MECE Muse
The MECE Muse by Christie Lindor is a descriptive book that serves as a guide for those with interest in consultation. You gain insight into the procedures a consultant follows based on the author's experiences as a mentor. The research includes interviews and other resources that give you a head start in your journey to becoming or understanding the world of consultation.
The book was founded from the author's perspective and experience and from the viewpoint and experiences of other consultants with many years of knowledge and experience. The book title was derived from a consulting lingo for many management consultants, a way of being. MECE describes a technique for how business problems are visualised and understood to solve the root cause. It is an abbreviation that means mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive.
The book explains the necessary skills, behaviours, and qualities expected of a consultant. It describes how a consultant should have good communication skills and emotional intelligence. A consultant's problem-solving and critical thinking skills are relevant, and they serves as advisors with proper etiquette. It supports these facts with techniques that have been tried and tested and even explains the traits and mistakes that affect one's career as a consultant. The book contains three sections and 21 chapters, each with a new step or phase in the advancement of becoming a great consultant. It has a conclusion and an appendix that every reader should look forward to as it solidifies the phrase that says "saving the best for the last."
The most captivating part of the book was the appendix, which provided the summary of the entire book in a number system, and gave unlimited resources such as websites, podcasts, books, and a consultancy toolkit starter pack that aids consultants. The book covers everything you need to know about consultancy and could even be used to train a lay-man as it is very simplified and carries you along with each section. It was well-formatted and neatly written. I liked how each technique was related to a real-life example of its use. The book contains numerous self-development lessons such as teamwork, listening skills, courtesy, and mindset development.
I don't see any reason to dislike this book as I enjoyed every aspect of it and learned a great deal from it. It truly is a source of pride for consultants as it sheds light on their talents and way of life.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars and recommend it to curious readers and those who seek knowledge or guidance in the consultancy sphere. I would recommend it to a large audience as most qualities of a consultant help with self-development. I did not find any grammatical or spelling errors, making this book a professionally edited book.
