Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a fantastic memoir and a delight to read. It presents the narration of the author's early life, starting as a young diplomat and activist. One thing that would captivate the reader as the story unfolds is the possibility of a single individual having all the various encounters captured in this book. Incredibly, one person accomplished so much in his lifetime. This book showcases the exciting play of the world of high-class diplomacy.
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah can be called a man of many talents. He was a son, husband, scientist, activist, freedom fighter and peace seeker. Interestingly, he did well in all aspects. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah lived during a momentous time for the nations of his home continent – Africa. He takes the readers on a fascinating tour of the history of post-colonial Africa. While an activist medical student, young Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was a Freedom Fighter for the independence of Algeria. His efforts are profound, and this book is an inspirational piece.
The positive things about this book are too numerous. The author tried to deliver a message through the account of his own life as a diplomat, which is a message of peace. The book emphasised the importance of peace, especially in our very turbulent society of today. This book inspires understanding of individual differences and how to pursue peace to achieve the greater good of the community. Again, the book is well detailed and could come in handy as a teaching guide for twentieth-century history students. The author was intentional as he showed how pertinent tolerance is to mutual coexistence among the people. Furthermore, the book opens the readers' eyes to an adventure back in time, as Dr. Ghoulem Berrah worked in different capacities and countries to pursue peace. The readers get to know the secret activities behind the scenes.
One quality of this book, which is seen on every page as the story progresses, is that the text is full of inspiration. The readers get inspired with every turn to the next page. I found no errors in the book. Therefore, it was exceptionally well-edited. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's memoir is indeed a delight to read.
The only downside I would say I found in this book is the length. The story is quite long. This is, however, expected for a book on the life story of a man with many facets and activities in life.
In all, I rate this book 4 out of 4. It gets a perfect rating because I thoroughly enjoyed my reading experience. Also, the downside I pointed out did not downplay the lessons embedded in this memoir.
I would recommend this book to lovers of politics, history and also diplomats. Students and teachers in the aforementioned fields would also find this book an exciting read.
