Review of Building A Coaching Culture
Human beings are creatures that are to be tuned to a certain area especially professionally. Building a coaching culture by Andreas Von Der Heydt is a book that tries to show the importance of coaching especially to institutions mostly the corporates and business entities. Coaching, being the act of tuning an employee to be apt to the institutions expectations is and should be undertaken in order to orient a new employee and show him how the institution runs differently from others. The author advocates for in-coaching where the managers play a key role.
The book is detailed and has various sections dealing with specific issues related to coaching. The author actually did the book like a problem finding then expounded on ways to succesfully carry out coaching and make it an institution's culture so that there is motivation which gives the workers energy in their day to day activities. I like the research done on the same which provides an essence and importance to the field of coaching. It is actually proven coaching makes organizations run more effectively than without. The author also makes use of good grammar.
The author has done the book and it has received worldwide recognition by very high level leaders of various reknown organisations hence adding value to the publication. There are well illustrated diagrams bearing information on various implementation methods for succesful coaching. The book reminded me of servant leadership where the managers are able to coach their juniors successfully. References have been provided in details to aid further research and more clarification from various sources. He advocates for it to be a culture not just a one time event.
I rather disliked how the author chose to indicate the source of his research just after statements, so a whole page is full of brackets here and there I would rather he had maybe used a number then expounded on that at the end the book as he did with some references since this would make reading quite easy without getting mixed up in references of certain years and some German scientist names. The format wasn't all that friendly and made me strain going through the book. The book has been professionally edited with a few errors. I generally didn't like the book.
I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars since it has some important Knowledge though it is flat in terms of making the audience jump to their feet and feel exhilarated. I would recommend it to managers because this book is trying to show how they can be agents of change in their respective organizations by impacting their surbodinates positively.
