"That time I..." by David O'Brien is a non-fictional novel that revolves around the life of David, a successful millionaire who shares a compilation of stories that takes place throughout his life. David loses his father at the age of eleven. One of the reasons he lives recklessly, enjoying every bit of his life, is that he believes he will not live up to his dead father's age who lived up to forty. David never relents, even though he loses his father. At a very tender age, David does a lot of menial jobs, which includes mowing lawns for the neighbourhood and selling candies from doorstep to doorstep. He makes his first fortune as a kid by hunting eels from the back bay and selling them to the fish market by dawn. David also suffers from hypomania which gets him into ridiculous situations ending up with hilarious outcomes. This is basically a compilation of David's story from childhood until current times in no chronological order.

I enjoyed reading this book, and I see it as a perfect blend of humour and adventure. The author uses various ways to captivate the mind of the reader. He adds sketches at the beginning of every chapter, giving the book a comic vibe. The fact that he started every chapter with the title of the book “That time I...” makes it even more engaging.

The author had a lot of experiences, both good and bad, from getting paid 200,000 dollars waiting, to hitting a cop in Dublin but in all, he was a very good person with a kind heart. I loved how the book was filled with stories of famous people and their adventures. I also liked how every chapter of the book was named as it made the book more intriguing. I found this book quite amusing as well and this spiced up my reading experience for me.

However, I do not like the fact that the author swore and used profane language in the book, even though he warned us about it. Also a lot of characters were introduced in the book, so it was hard to remember most of the personalities and identities in the book.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The author can do better by giving a more detailed description of his characters. Aside from that, I enjoyed this book.

This book is not suitable for children because of the amount of profane words. However, I recommend this book to adults who want a good laugh and are lovers of adventures.
