Health is wealth. It is an invaluable asset. We cannot go to work when we are sick. We cannot go to the market when we are sick. We cannot pursue our desired university programs when we are sick. The list is inexhaustible. To maintain this invaluable asset, we need to be intentional when choosing the foods to eat. We need to be careful with the kinds of drugs we take. We also need to live a healthy lifestyle. How do we go about this? In Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks, Morton E. Tavel gives some wonderful and professional insights into how a healthy, happy, and purpose-driven life can be attained.

The book is divided into three sections: tips, myths, and tricks. Under tips, Tavel introduces us to several foods that are highly beneficial to health maintenance. Some of them are green tea, fish, pasteurised milk, chocolate, and coffee. He also discusses the health benefits of exercises and breakfasts. He lists the kinds of foods to avoid, especially those that expose us to cardiovascular diseases. Some of them are canned soups, chicken pot pie, and margarine sticks. Under myths, Tavel dismantles some unsubstantiated beliefs about soft and hard water, Wifi, radiation of foods, and energy drinks. Under tricks, Tavel warns against relying on alternative medicine. He maintains that conventional medicine is more reliable than alternative medicine.

I was impressed by the simple language used in the book. Even when scientific terms are used, the author explains what they mean. I understood everything. This sustained my interest until the last page was turned. The author quotes several researches carried out by scholars and scientists to back up his assertions. He was not just blabbing. This gave the book a touch of authority. He was able to, from my own judgement, prove that conventional medicine is far better, safer, cheaper, and more reliable than alternative medicine. I was inspired by his confidence and wealth of experience.

I noticed some grammatical errors while reading the book. I felt bad when I noticed these grammatical errors. The book, therefore, is not well edited.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I deduct a star from the rating because of the grammatical errors in the book.

Nevertheless, Tavel has written a book that can stand the test of time. His book, Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks, is like the lonely voice in the wilderness. It is written to save us from dangerous drugs, supplements, and practices. It is written to preserve the integrity of conventional medicine.

I recommend this book to parents and medical students. It is my belief that they will find it helpful.
