A Dream for Peace: An Ambassador’s Memoir is a historic story that follows the life of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. Coming from humble beginnings, the author lost his father at a young age and his mother had to provide for him. She made sure he had a good education and excelled in his studies throughout his life. The racism and discrimination he faced did not deter him from his higher purpose when he was in school. He would be arrested at some point for trying to fight this racism. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah would go on to work hard to give Algeria a brighter future and other African countries. His role as an ambassador to the president of Cote d'Ivoire helped him do more in his quest for enriching humanity and improving lives, especially in Africa. This story is one of courage, faith, and hard work. The life lived by the author is an inspiration.

When I first selected this book for review, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about if I would finish reading it on time because of how lengthy it was. After the first hundred pages, I got so invested in the story that I wanted to read more and more about the story. By the time I finished the book, I did not even mind how long it was because I was enjoying it so much. Once you enjoy a book, you no longer see the pages go by and that is what happened to me with this great memoir. The way religion was explored in this book is noteworthy as the author infused different religions and managed to educate about them all. I loved that this book was multi-dimensional in the religious aspect as that is not something I see quite often. I also liked the level of organisation that this book presented as the author provided footnotes on words that are not common and could be misunderstood. This made the reading process much easier as I did not have to go searching on the internet for some words and what they meant.

I have to say that I learned a lot as a person from reading this memoir. Dr. Berrah was such a remarkable person that it is hard to not admire him. I learned a lot about serving others through this great man. His story motivated me to be the best person I can be. Since this story is non-fictional, I kept telling myself that if someone else can achieve this greatness, so can I. The world would definitely be a better place if it had more people like Dr. Berrah and I want to become the change I want to see in the world because of the inspiration I got from this memoir. I have never been as interested in politics as I was when I was reading this book. The author managed to tell his story in such an engaging manner that I wanted to read everything he had to say. I was worried that since the book was long, there would be some unnecessary details and redundancy but I am glad that none of that was found in this book. Another thing I found admirable about this book was how Dr. Berrah showed love for his wife. It was so heartwarming and made me like him even more. The pictures in the book gave it a more personal touch that I appreciated. It made me connect to the story on a whole new level and I appreciated that. If I could, I would write an entire page based on what I liked about this book and everything I learned. This was truly a book worth reading.

I found nothing to dislike about this book. The was no profanity or anything inappropriate. The author took his time with this great work and it showed in all the pages. The book was exceptionally edited especially considering how long it was. I found no errors and I have to give the book the only rating it deserves; 4 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to all lovers of history, politics, and those who love a good biography. There is a lot to be learned from the life of Dr. Berrah and how he helped the great continent of Africa.
