Review of A Dream For Peace
A reader with a love for great memoirs will adore this book as a magnificent piece on their shelf. A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a memoir that recounts an odyssey full of inspiration and many insights into leadership. The author narrates his life story from his achievements in medicine, and how he joined the political arena in a bid to struggle for peace and freedom for his country. He desired to liberate his country from the shackles of colonial rule.
The author, who is an Algerian citizen, received a scholarship to study abroad. While in the university, he joined an elite group of students who were revolutionists and who participated in the fight for independence and freedom of their country. Facing harassment and incarcerations, did not deter him from his ambition for liberation and freedom of his people from the French subjugation. He sought diplomatic assistance and advice from other African countries presidents, diplomats, and a vast network of revolutionist friends. He demonstrates his great passion for peace and love in support of the ecumenical and harmonious unity of Muslims and Christians. This is regardless of the differences in religious perspectives. As a devout Muslim, he united the Muslims and the Christians with a vast influence both locally and internationally.
I liked how the author added colorful pictures in the book to capture different moments and memories. I also admired the positive attributes that the author portrays in the book. He radiates a strong determination and resilience in the way he remained focused and composed despite the chaos and pressures that arose in the struggle for freedom. At times strikes, demonstrations, and confrontations of the student unionists with the colonial authorities would begin getting out of hand but he always sprung into action to calm down his fellow students. I felt like he acted as an anchor that held the liberation from getting out of control. He is such a visionary and pacifistic leader.
As I conclude, I would recommend this book to every reader who is a fan of biographies and non-fiction works. Additionally, the book would be a great gem for a leader as it has great leadership insights and inspiration. I found nothing to dislike in the book. It was a bit long but the author had a way of making the memoir mesmerizing and captivating.
Lastly, the book had no grammatical errors. It was well written and exceptionally well-edited. Hence I would reward it 4 out of 4 stars.
