Review of Manifesto for a Cancer Patient
Colleen Huber, NMD, a seasoned naturopathic oncologist and the owner of a naturopathic cancer clinic that has been in operation for eleven years in Tempe, Arizona, began Manifesto for a Cancer Patient by outlining the rights accruing to a cancer patient seeking treatment. One of these rights is the right to receive adequate information on their medical condition and be informed on the risk and benefits of any treatment procedure the doctors suggest. Subsequently, Colleen Huber expressed her displeasure at the deceptive practice of oncologists in the United States. She reported that these oncologists targeted the most submissive and pessimistic patients that wouldn't put up so much resistance to their ideas and quickly referred them to chemotherapy and radiation even before imaging and biopsy procedures were conducted. The author used Sarah's story to express this truth exhaustively. Later in the book, she suggested diet changes and natural procedures that would be of immense help in the fight against cancer.
I love the author's passion and sincerity. She clearly cares more about providing the best possible service to the cancer patient than joining in the big feast of exploitation in the oncology sector of medical practice. She has the best interest of her patients at heart; she literally saved Sarah from spending thousands of dollars after she helped her discover that there were no cancer cells in her system. I love that this book is not a campaign against chemotherapy and radiation because that would have cast some doubts on the sincerity of the author's objective. It was clearly not written in a desperate bid to promote the author's naturopathic practice. While suggesting natural ways to treat cancer, she equally spoke about the benefits and risks of chemotherapy.
There was no part of the book that I didn't like. The rights and choices available to a cancer patient, diets that will help beat the disease, and the problems associated with specific medical procedures were exhaustively explained in the book. The author brilliantly avoided the use of many medical words as that could confuse the reader. I learnt a whole lot from this book, and I must commend the author's ingenuity.
Regardless of the fact that I found some errors in Manifesto for a Cancer Patient, I believe Colleen Huber's editor did a professional job. I give the book a 4 out of 4 stars rating. It offered great information; I loved every part of it, and that's my reason for not deducting a single star.
It was clear from as early as just reading the title of the book that it is specifically meant for people battling cancer disease. I'm sure oncologists who still have a living conscience will have a change of mind and do better in practice after reading this book.
