A Dream for Peace is a memoir by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. In his memoir, he shares with readers his life journey starting from his early childhood. He describes where he grew up, his family life, religion, and everything about his neighborhood. The book has a total of 644 pages and seventeen different chapters. He shares the cultures and the values his mother instilled in him at a young age. He credits his success to his mother.

I loved how the author was very open with his feelings and was able to communicate his thoughts on different life issues in the book. He shares with readers his life as a diplomat and the challenges he faced in his career path. He gives his honest opinions on the different influential leaders he interacted with. The author was not afraid to stand for what he believed in throughout his entire life, and I was inspired by his courage and determination to achieve things for the good of humanity. I was amazed at how selfless he was and how determined he was to ensure that his people would always get to benefit and not end up oppressed. His faith and belief in his country were admirable.

I enjoyed reading about the author's relationships. After one failed marriage, he met with the love of his life. However, circumstances could not have them marrying each other. He goes into another relationship which adds to the list of failed marriages, but he does not give up on the lady of his dreams. He shares how he would fly and travel by road for long distances to spend time with his lady on the weekends. The girl’s parents were against their relationship, and that only added to the obstacles faced.

There is nothing that I disliked about the book. I enjoyed reading the memoir, and I felt connected to Dr. Berrah through this book. I did not encounter any profanities in the book though there are instances of severe violence and deaths in the book. I found the photos provided in the book to be refreshing and a nice addition.

I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. I believe the book to be exceptionally edited as I did not encounter any grammatical errors. I recommend this book to lovers of historical non-fiction as the memoir provides many details on post-colonial Africa and its political dynamics. Readers sensitive to violence and murder should avoid the book.
