HEALTH TIPS, MYTHS, AND TRICKS it’s a novel by Morton E.Tavel MD which as the title goes describes some health tips, myths, and tricks. The novel is divided into three major parts the first one is the tips about the health and wellness of a person, the second is the misconceptions about anything regarding physical appearance and its relation to the immediate environment. The last are the tricks used to take your money in exchange for bias or useless information or product.
Everyone tries to maintain good health since it’s all that we need for good survival. Morton in this novel clearly explains the tips that we can use to achieve or maintain good health. You start by calculating the body mass index to determine whether you are underweight, normal, or obese. For those people who are obese the best way to reduce weight is reducing the intake of dietary fats and carbohydrates and instead of taking protein which in the process of digestion causes the body to burn 30% calories per unit volume. The author discourages the use of dietary supplements, diet pills, and surgery to reduce weight.
There are other things to avoid to maintain normal weight such as eating breakfast to avoid snacking often, use of trans fat, some food like chicken pot pie, canned soup, large amounts of sodium, more intake of processed foods, and many others. Instead, people should use foods like peas, potatoes, Red Bell Pepper, foods rich in potassium, and many more. Morton also describes a diet for those with high blood pressure. The novel HEALTH TIPS, MYTHS, AND TRICKS also give some tips on what to do about the cold. Also as we all know that smoking is bad, there as so many diseases related to it including oral cancer, lung cancer stroke, blindness, and many more. Hence those who have the option to avoid smoke should do that immediately
On the other hand, there are some myths related to health such as vaccination, use of energy drinks, genetically modified foods, organic foods, gluten-free diets, bottled water, myths about hard and soft water, wifi, hand drying, raw milk, and others. Also, there are tricks used by individuals or organizations about false health information or products for their gain. This includes false cures, dietary supplements, alkaline water, and many more
The novel is very interesting with simple health tips. I can recommend the novel to people with health problems since it is very educative on the dos and don’ts. The plot of the novel also encourages one to keep reading since it highlights the main content in point form making it easier to identify them and also using a chart. The novel is written from the author's point of view giving adequate information about good health from a qualified physician's point of view. Rating the book, I would give it four out of four stars.
