As humans, we are constantly plagued with thoughts on how to live well, particularly with regards to health. These thoughts bring up questions which vary from what to eat, how much exercise is sufficient, the safety of medicines and so on. Such questions usually lead to depression and anxiety, specifically when there is a sudden decline in health and wellbeing. Out of desperation, and with the aim of prolonging one's lifespan, one may go about combing various sources for remedies to certain problems. Some of the solutions found are usually erroneous and may pose greater health risks.

Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks by Morton E Ravel, is a medical journal that provides a wide range of information concerning various health-related issues. The author (a retired physician specialist in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases) has made great effort to analyze aphorisms and fallacies regarding health with references to what we ingest, radioactivity, vaccines and so forth. The chapters in this book provide information not only on ways to prevent detriment of health, but they also contain health myths people are prone believe, which the author has refuted with convincing arguments.

I have certainly been enlightened by the many facts the author has compiled in the various chapters of this book. I was quite intrigued to learn things I had been ignorant about, one of them being that hard water has more nutritional value than soft water. I appreciate how the contents of this book are not aimed at judging one's lifestyle choices or forcing the reader to change his/her lifestyle. Rather the author, in a manner a parent would address his children, has provided after much extensive research, advice on how to live a healthier life, and urges readers to make the right choices. One might ask 'how can we tell if the contents of this book are true?' I believe with an open mind and further research (as the author has provided a reference list at the end of the book to enable this) one should be able to make positive choices for the betterment of their health and wellbeing. The author has also adopted a bit of humor in this book to ensure that readers don't get hysterical as the contents are quite sensitive and pertain to serious matters.

I would like to commend the author on the the creation of such an illuminating book. Aside from a few typographical errors, I found no faults with this book. There is no reason not to rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

This book is recommended to anyone who wishes to learn more about health improvement and have a better understanding of health-related issues as a whole.
