Review of The Truth Is Beyond Belief!
Thought-provoking, mind-blowing and eye-opening. These are the words I would choose to describe The Truth Is Beyond Belief! by Jerry Durr, a book teaching us the magic of the universe and creation. Based on eastern philosophies, this book dives deeply into simple concepts we apply in our everyday lives, imparting a profound wisdom that causes one to rethink the way we look at the world around us. It reinforces the idea of how our thoughts separate us from reality and prevent us from realising our own potential. With hurtling thoughts giving rise to spiralling anxiety a commonality in society, the lessons in the book are applicable to many people around the world. Giving a whole new definition to being our biggest obstacle both mentally and spiritually, a quote from this book sums it up, “The irony is that we usually don’t have enough imagination to see Reality.” This book advocates nothing but love and encouragement to see ourselves for the miracle that we truly are, which is a really important message in this generation of self-deprecating teenagers. Beyond seeing ourselves as unique and special, the book also broadens our minds to the extraordinariness of the universe and teaches us to appreciate the beauty of creation around us.
While the book does have some religious implications, I feel that people from all religious beliefs can benefit from it. Instead of bashing other religions so as to advocate a singular truth or forcing a certain perspective on the readers, all I see in Durr’s writing is pure admiration and love for humanity and the universe. It encompasses the foundations of all religions, championing qualities such as goodness, mercy and joy. I feel that these basic concepts are often lost in the ugliness of fighting over which religion is superior, but reading this book gives me hope for a future where all religions can live in peace and harmony, practicing love and compassion towards one another.
A chapter which particularly spoke to me was the one on illusions which described how life would look once the illusions of fear and anger were dissipated. It explains how “Fear comes from the way we think things are.” while “Anger comes from the way we think things should be.” Once these illusory thoughts are dissipated, we can return to an idyllic serendipity and an ideal world.
Accordingly, reading this book gave me a sense of tranquility which I haven’t felt in a while. In the rush of our daily lives and societal pressures, this book seemed to simplify things with astonishing clarity. I was astounded at the wisdom and knowledge that could be found in such simple sentences and phrases. Nearly every sentence could be used in a philosophical essay or pinned as the ideal Pinterest quote. Although I paused at every word to soak up its meaning, I sense that there’s still so much I was unable to fathom with one read. This book is meant to be read frequently, with its profound knowledge meant to guide us towards a utopian society.
I honestly have nothing to fault this book for. It was professionally edited with no errors and I like how the information was meaningfully conveyed through simple language. It was succinct and sufficient and I have to give this book 4 out of 4 stars. Although some may feel it affects their religious disposition, I encourage you to have an open mind while reading this as it doesn’t force one to convert to a specific religion or slander other religions at all. While I don’t have Durr’s talent of conveying such wisdom within limited words, I hope my sincerity in recommending this book could be felt because everyone needs a copy in their lives.
