Review of Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks
Health Tips, Myths and Tricks: A Physician's Advice by Dr. Morton E. Tavel, is a very informative book. The reader will learn many things including ones that we probably don't even think of asking about since we have just accepted them as the norm, as the 'healthy' choice. This book will ask you to question almost all your decisions from the food that you eat, the water that you drink, the vegetables and fruits that you buy in the market, the supplements you buy, the medicines that you take and even the annual checkups that are supposedly taken to help you make a healthier choice.
It provides evidence that provides a clearer picture and understanding in each of the myths and tricks that he discussed in this book. The topics discussed were so common and rampant in the sense that everyone seems to be doing it without question such as buying organic produce, stretching before exercise, annual check - ups, having supplements, drinking alkaline water and many more. This book tells you whether these are facts or myths and provides evidence why it claims it to be such.
The book may be weird to read because of its editing. Some chapters are not justified and indented as other pages. Some chapters have items in bullet form and they are also indented in a very distracting way and this can be improved to make the book more enjoyable to read. Also, some chapters have just too much information dumped unto the reader all at once that a reader who may not be used to scientific readings may have a hard time absorbing all the scientific terms used in the book and some topics were just discussed haphazardly that a reader may not be able to let all information sink in. There are scientific names that are not italicized even when they should be.
I rate this book three out of four. It is a good book that needs a bit of polishing and editing. It is quite informative and provides information backed up by numerous references thus it provides not just the author's opinion but one supported by facts and numbers backed up by researches and studies done by others.
This book is good for everyone specially health buffs or people who want to just read something about health. Also, you are not required to read the book in a specific arrangement. If you want to read about a specific topic, you can just jump into that specific page and read about it. I recommend this book to everyone and I do hope everyone can read it. There are just so many information worth reading and exploring.
