Review of Surviving the Business of Healthcare
Surviving the Business of Healthcare by Barbara Galutia Regis PA-C is written like a memoir. Using her perspective as a medical practitioner and a patient, the author shares her story in the healthcare industry. Barbara comes from a family of medical practitioners. Her great-grandfather, her grandfather, and her father were all in the medical field. Barbara was diagnosed with cancer which she had surgery for. With her experience as a patient and a healthcare provider who has been in the medical business for over 20 years, she educates the public and empowers others in the medical business.
Sharing her childhood with the reader, she recounts watching her father struggle and succeed in the medical field and how he inspired her. Furthermore, she talks about the healthcare system of the US, the healthcare system of the past, and the rules surrounding modern-day medical practices. She talks about the cost of healthcare and how practicing medicine has become more of a business. She, therefore, advises the reader on healthcare insurance and how to get the best of medical care.
This book was very inspiring. I am not a medical person, but I learned a lot from this book. At first, I thought I was going to have issues understanding the book because of the use of strong medical terms while sharing her story as a cancer patient, but this wasn’t so. I was able to understand a lot as I read on. This book was written with simple language, making it easy for me to read and understand. Sharing her personal stories, especially as a patient at the beginning of the book, made relating with her even easier.
This concise book was filled with a lot of information and was inspiring. I like that the author shares her understanding of how difficult it is for people to think during emergencies, and she advises that emergency plans be made ahead of time. Barbara Galutia Regis identified some issues the public faces in healthcare, even legal healthcare issues, and explained that the right health insurance plan could go a long way.
There were not many things that I did not like about this book. The only thing I wish was different was the position of the pictures. I would have preferred the pictures in the context rather than at the end of the book. Reading and looking at pictures sometimes can be interesting. Also, there were parts of the book I felt could do with more information because they left me wondering and wanting to know more. Overall, I enjoyed this book and had no serious issues with it.
My rating for this book is 4 out of 4 stars. I totally enjoyed reading this book. The pictures were an added value package. I also liked that the book was concise, and the author was able to pass on valuable and important messages. The author stated some issues facing the healthcare system and also provided solutions to the public. To crown it all, the book was exceptional well-edited.
I think this book will be beneficial for everyone. People in the medical field, patients, relatives of the patients, and the general public will benefit a lot from this book. The language is simple enough for everyone to understand, and the medical terms, which of course aren’t dominated throughout the book, can be verified. For a book this inspiring and beneficial, everyone should get a copy for themselves.
