Raymond Gerson’s Create The Life You Want dives into the subjects of finding a fulfilling career, leading a purposeful life, and upkeeping your dream relationship. Gerson uses his own life experience to give examples of how he pursued each of these goals and then dives into how certain actions helped him achieve the career or girl of his dreams. Although the chapters are often quite short, they were straight-forward and easily understood concepts for anyone to read and enjoys. He offers plenty of helpful advice with inspiring words and even ends the chapters with questions for readers to ponder to achieve the life they desire.

My favorite aspect of Gerson's book was easily the way Gerson presents an example from his own personal life to further explain his reasoning for his advice. This style made it easier to apply it to my own life and see what steps I could take myself to get the internship or career I’ve always dreamed of. Gerson’s writing does not come off as cheesy or unrealistic but is motivating. He uses relative, intellectual quotes to further reinstate the purpose for his writing. His questions at the end of the chapter also drive readers to ask them themselves questions they haven’t thought of before, and this unique aspect was something I truly enjoyed. His writing made me want me jump into action and use his advice to give myself the life I dream of. For anyone trying to read more self-help books, I would recommend Create the Life You Want as the perfect starter book.

If I had to choose a negative aspect for this book, I would simply say it is not for those who have read many self-help books. It reads more as a beginner’s guide as Gerson does not go into complex ideas, but rather offers a simplistic guide. I would especially recommend it to younger people, such as high schoolers. Gerson makes it understood that anyone can take these steps no matter the age, as he did not until his later years, but I think it would be most helpful to those who have not quite begun the journey into adulthood.

Overall, I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. I thought it was helpful, entertaining, but it was rather simple-minded in writing. While there were not enough grammatical errors to cause problems while reading, there were a couple I spotted that also deterred a four star rating.
