HEALTH TIPS, MYTHS AND TRICKS is a fascinating novel authored by Morton E. Tavel, MD. The author has divided the book into three parts and they contain different topics. The first topic is on tips to health and wellness, the second part is on myths and misconceptions on our physical makeup and the third part is on tricks that are designed to take people’s money in exchange for useless or dangerous products.

The first part of the book provides the tips to good health and wellness. The author has provided different tips and to begin he advises the reader to avoid trans fats as they are dangerous and substitute them with healthier alternatives like olive oil. He cautions the reader against some foods for example ice cream, tortillas, biscuits and loaded milkshakes. He advises the reader to always get enough sleep, to avoid artificial sweeteners and junk food and to regularly exercise as it is good for our health. In the second part of the book the author talks about myths and he distinguishes them from facts. Some of the myths are that organic foods are better than conventional foods, raw milk is superior to pasteurized milk and they are all false. He also debunks other myths like energy drinks are good for our health but the fact is that they are overrated. This information is very helpful to the reader because it will help one to make better choices on the foods that a person consumes.

Lastly the author talks about the tricks that have been designed to take people’s money in exchange for useless or dangerous products. These include false cures that are questionable and have no evidence supporting them. He gives an example of how to identify a scam by stating that at times some newspaper adverts do not give information exclusively they always provide that there is a secret ingredient. Real scientists do not hide any secret ingredients they give the whole report so that it can be debated upon.

The positive aspect I found about this book is that it has been well written and divided into three distinct sections and this makes it easier for the reader to read and understand the different concepts separately. The author also gives alternatives to some of the foods and supplements that he has advised the reader to avoid. Another positive aspect I found is that the author has distinguished myths and misconceptions from facts and this is important in helping the reader to make better choices on what to consume and what not to.

I rate this book a four out four. I enjoyed reading it and the plot flowed continuously. I did not find any negative aspects about it.

I recommend this book to persons interested in understanding the tips to wellness, how to distinguish myths from facts in regards to our health and the tricks that are used to take people’s money for products that may be useless or dangerous.
