HEALTH TIPS, MYTHS, AND TRICKS is a book by Morton E. Tavel, MD. It is a detailed work aimed at clearing confusions on health related issues. It is divided into three parts. The first section provides important tips for healthy living. The second section gives samples of myths, popular beliefs and factually tells whether they are true or false. The last section exposes the tricks used by dubious health practitioners in order to convince people to buy their products. This has proven to be a well researched piece with reliable facts and figures that further clarify the subject matter and render solutions to them. Do you need a compendium of actual facts on health? Then read this book.

I love the author’s perceived passion to rescue people from deception on issues related to their wellbeing. I appreciate also, his use of reliable statistics to give explanation to issues such as overweight, salt consumption and many more. I was alarmed to discover that excessive intake of salt causes high blood pressure. I’ll have to cut down on that. I love the fact that the author was detailed, exact and frank in his approach. The fact that he thought of referring readers to good sites for further clarification was absolutely beautiful. For instance, after stating that most fish species today contain mercury, he went further to direct concerned readers to an online site where they could check if the species of fish they wanted to eat was harmful or not. The numerous references helped me appreciate the work of other scientists and authors whose observations on the human system, contributed a lot to the success of the book. The author did much work to clear the confusions on health issues such as those on energy drinks, dietary supplements and many others.

The book was well edited and made reading smooth and interesting. I commend the editor.

Sincerely, I saw nothing dis-likable about the book. Both the author and editor did their jobs well.

I give the book a rating of 4 out of 4. I gave it a perfect rating because I see it as an excellent compendium of health related issues with solutions attached. I didn’t give below that rating because I didn’t see any reason to deduct points. The book was well edited and the author communicated his message in a direct and understandable way.

I recommend this book to all who want to know firsthand, what is fact and what is untrue among the many beliefs about health.
