Review of How To Be Successful
How to be successful by Curtis McCoy is a book that can be classed as a self-help narrative. The book is a very well written collection of both personal and outside experiences and interviews of those considered to be successful in today’s society. The fresh way of approaching the question of what makes a person successful offers a new perspective to the reader about the meaning of success, and how each person can achieve it according to simple methods and practices that successful people all seem to have in common. The book utilizes interviews with people who have achieved success, and intertwines personal anecdotes and advice from the author, who uses his own inspiring story on the road to his success, and all the hardships he faced on the journey.
The positive aspects of this book were that it was intriguing and did not come across as sanctimonious, which is sometimes the case in books classed in the self-help section. I really enjoyed the way the author incorporated interviews with a variety of people who have achieved success across many different careers and interests. The set out of the book made it simple to read and easy to absorb, and the personal story of the author is really what makes the book stand out and inspire.
The negative aspects of the book, for myself personally, were few and far between. The grammar and spelling were very professional, and the layout was nicely done. I did find, however, that all of the interviews included in the book had a running theme, that being that all of the successful people interviewed were of the Christian faith, and although this did not influence the enjoyment of the book, I do feel that it would have been beneficial to have included a successful person not affiliated with any faith. This is simply because I feel it would appeal to a wider audience.
I would rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars due to the fact that it was very well written, interesting, and inspiring in its message. The reason that I did not rate this book lower is because I found it to be an excellent read, even for one, like myself, who does not ordinarily read self-help books, truly enjoyed the book. I rated it so highly due to the fact that it was it was grammatically well written, very motivating, and provided actual tips and methods to achieve a successful life.
I would recommend this book to wide audience, I feel it would be helpful to people who are struggling in their lives, be it a business, financial, or family issue, as the book is not limited in its advice to only business success. I recommend this book particularly to anyone who is struggling with their mindset in life, although the book is to provide the reader with tips on how to be successful, I found it to be amazing in its properties with changing a mindset from one of negativity to one of positivity. After reading this book, even I was inspired to change my mindset and outlook on life.
