Julie Ryan McGue, like millions of others, is an adoptee on a mission to find her birth parents. While the road to find birth parents may not be easy, the road seems nearly impossible for McGue. Long into her adult years, McGue develops health issues that kickstart the search for her birth parents. In the hopes for answers about her family’s medical history, McGue unearths a multitude of lies, scandals, and emotional setbacks. The quest for answers is filled with twists, turns, trials, and triumphs.

Twice a Daughter is an intriguing read from start to finish. I found myself on the edge of my seat quite often! While I had a fairly normal childhood, McGue made it quite easy to relate to her story which I thoroughly enjoyed. McGue truly paints a portrait with her words. While it is hard to fathom the feelings and emotions McGue went through, she certainly provided an in-depth look into the emotions, heart, and mind of an adoptee on the hunt for her birth parents.

Personally, I cannot find a single negative thing to say about Twice a Daughter. Struggling with mental illness and physical health is something I am familiar with, but reading McGue’s story was truly inspiring. Reading about the strength and courage McGue had throughout the book is so very touching to the soul. I love a good book I can relate to.

All in all, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The troubles and trials McGue encounters along the pathway are well worth the long-awaited ending. The calmness, sunshine, and beautiful growth that can be seen after a storm is the perfect description for this wonderful book. Another helpful point to note is the book is professionally edited, leaving no room for an awkward and bumpy read!

Honestly, this book can be read by most audiences. Individuals of any age and group would be able to read and appreciate the winding search for answers. Specifically, the book would be most appealing to parents, adoptees, foster parents, and foster children. Who does not enjoy a good book about twists, family, love, and resolutions?
