Gardening With Guns is a memoir written by AJ Wootton. The book presented Wootton’s challenges and experiences in a story format.

Wootton is a very hardworking woman who faced so many things in the past. She was molested sexually while she was young by her mother’s second husband. She also witnessed the nasty divorce of her father and mother. All these experiences strengthened her, and she vowed to do everything to keep her family together. She is currently married to Matt and has three children. She was overworked at her previous organization, which denies her time for her family. Wootton desired a change in her career to allow her to spend more time with her husband and children. She got an appointment for an interview at Michaelson Company after being referred by a friend. The interview went well, and she prayed she receives the appointment as her marriage was in jeopardy. Why is her marriage in Jeopardy? How did Wootton get to this point? All these would be answered when you read this book.

The book contained fifty-one chapters that were properly named, and the texts used were increased in size to allow easy differentiation from the rest of the body of the book. She also used idioms as the title of some chapters, which generate questions in the heart of readers while reading.

The author presented the story of her life interestingly by telling it as a story, and this made it fun to read. She used simple English and made sure that the book was not boring like most memoirs. The author provided conversations, thoughts, and descriptions of scenes that were detailed in the book. She made sure various scenes were described in a way that makes it easy for readers to picture them. The description of the waiting room where she was interviewed by the board of directors of Michaelson Company was well detailed, as I could picture the room in my mind. The author also took her time to explain the relationship that exists between her and the people close to her. This showed the power of the bond that a family has. All these made me enjoy the book.

I hate nothing in this book, as it is one of the best memoirs I have read because of the way it was written. The book was also professionally edited with no errors noticed. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I will recommend this book to lovers of memoirs with many twists.
