A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is an intriguing, inspiring memoir of a man with an underlying love for his country and freedom.

Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was born in a colonized Algeria during a time where there were fewer teachers and schools. He lost his father when he was a kid. He was mainly raised by his mother. He first experienced racism and discrimination in his local school in Algeria and he was the first person to react to it. He got a scholarship to study Medicine in France. While in France, he faced a lot of racism and discrimination as well. He reacted back. He formed and co-headed some organizations on campus that fought racism both in France and Algeria. Unfortunately, they faced persecution and risked being sent out of school. Did they overcome this?

A Dream For Peace is a memoir that I found quite inspiring. As an African, I can relate to the circumstances and his experience will have a profound influence on anybody that believes in fairness and justice, especially Africans. This is a story that was well written and each chapter tells about the author's distinct journey to freedom for Algeria and beyond. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was not only a freedom fighter, he was also an ambassador, a diplomat, a doctor, and a scientist. He also got a scholarship to study in the US. He later became the first scientist to give a hypothesis on what was described as a "Reverse Transcriptase Enzyme". He was also a diplomatic advisor to the then Ivorian president, Houphouet Boigny.

One very thing I love about this book was the author's spirit during the fight for independence for his beloved country. Despite challenges and persecutions, he never relented, he always found a way to bolt himself back to the fight. Same with his first wife, Antoinette. Despite that Antoinette wasn't from Algeria, she joined in the fight because she believed the fight was for the same cause.

The introduction of the author's old pictures was something I appreciated. Pictures with memoirs are such a lovely way on how one can detail one's life. With the pictures, I could already see the exact historical place and time the author was discussing.

There was nothing I disliked about this book. I also believe it was professionally edited too because I only found one error. Therefore, I will give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I really enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend this book to people who believe in fighting for what is right.
