Idiom Attack: Vol. 1 Everyday Living by Peter Liptak is a great resource for English Language Learners who want to practice or learn about idiomatic expressions that are commonly used by many native speakers of English. The way that the book is laid out allows it to work in a way similar to a dictionary or a thesaurus. Each section of the book introduces idiomatic expressions, as well as other common expressions that match the main theme listed on the page. This makes for a quick and streamlined experience for the reader. This book is a great jumping off point for both learners and educators of the English language.

The highlight of Idiom Attack: Vol. 1 is that it is very easy to use and the formatting is easy to follow and understand. Each idiomatic expression is followed up with tips on use and/or context to help the reader understand the expression better. A teacher would be able to use the context notes to help their student better use/understand and practice each expression. The book also includes practice materials and review materials, both of which help to solidify and use what has been presented in the book.

The downsides are that there is a lot of material covered and unless the person reading the book has an instructor or has reached an A2 to A2+ level of English comprehension, this book might not be suitable for them. The language used, like the use of the word synonym and metaphor, are not something that many A1 level English language learners are likely to understand. Therefore it is important for there to be a note in the introduction, or somewhere on the cover, of the recommended level or target level that this book is best suited.

Overall the book is a good resource for English language learners and I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars. The material has been presented in a clear and flexible way. There is a good amount of review materials, and practice materials for the person who wants additional practice.

This book has been designed for, and is suitable for, people who are learning English as a second or foreign language and those who are teaching English. It is a blend of a resource book and a textbook that makes learning idiomatic expressions easier and with clear guidance. It is a book that mostly has use for people who are of A2 level English language competency or higher.
