Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, the author of this book, was born in Aïn Beïda, at the foot of the Aurès Mountains in northeastern Algeria. At the time of his childhood, Algeria was being colonized by France; however, at some point, he traveled to France for his university education and became a student activist.

A Dream For Peace is a book that tells the story of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, his childhood, his fight for freedom from colonial rule, his profession as a scientist and ambassador, and his ever-determined nature towards achieving set goals. The story also sheds some light on the history of Algeria during colonialism and post-colonialism. Despite working as a professor in the United States, he never forgot where he came from, and when offered, by the president of his country, the opportunity to work for the betterment of his country, he took this offer, leaving America and his job as a scientist and professor.

The author gives a very detailed narrative of past historical events and issues. His position as an ambassador makes his narrative more believable and insightful. He even gave some information about incidents we never would have known because it was only witnessed by a few people, even though the effect was felt by many. His narratives of events are quite unique and descriptive. It includes intricate details, rather than generic and uninformative ones.

The author of this book is a really great storyteller and I am not too surprised because I would expect the same from anyone else who has been around the world forty times. His experiences and adventures are worth writing about and this book confirms that fact. He is someone who can be considered a success all way round. He was successful as a scientist and as an ambassador. His story was also very motivating. It comes to show that a person can achieve most things if he is determined enough. This book surpasses many other autobiography books in quality and is very inspiring.

While reading this book, I had a great time. I enjoyed reading the book. However, the author's straightforward writing style turned out to be both a blessing and a curse. This attribute made the book a little boring sometimes. I felt there should have been more emotions involved since it is an autobiography. It is a little weird that the emotional content is very low to none existent because during a person's life, a lot of emotions are experienced and this influences our decisions. Aside from this, I found no other issue to complain about.

This book is a fantastic read and I recommend it to curious minds, especially people who would love to know about African colonial and post-colonial history. I also recommend it to people who love autobiographies.

As I have mentioned several times, I found this book very interesting. I enjoyed every minute of reading it. For these reasons, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
