Some people claim that developing the ability to speak multiple languages requires special talents, but I am of the opinion that all it takes is the determination to learn the language and consciously make consistent efforts to practice. That way, anyone can yield amazing results in any language. Due to my love for studying about cultural heritages and desire to learn and speak multiple languages, I consider myself a linguaphile. From all my years of learning various languages, I have found that the best way to connect to another culture is through the language, and the best way to develop effective communication in a language is by working on ingraining the idioms that are associated with that language into you.

Idiom Attack Vol. 1 Everyday Living (Spanish Edition) is a book that presents a compilation of about 300 idioms translated into the Spanish language. Besides this Spanish edition, it is also available in other editions and languages like French and German languages. The content of the book is golden. The idioms provided are categorized into different themes that cut across a wide range of humans’ everyday activities.

In each chapter, the idioms are first introduced in their specific contexts in English language with their translations in Spanish. Each chapter contains a story that further helps the reader to see how the idioms are rightly used within their contexts. Also, there are comprehension assessments in each chapter which tests the readers’ understanding of the lessons learnt in that chapter.

Idiom Attack Vol. 1 Everyday Living (Spanish Edition) was written by a teacher and writer of language acquisition books, Peter Liptak, assisted by Matthew Douma who is an English education consultant and Jay Douma who is an elementary school teacher. It was translated by Patricia Urbano who works as a translator and is a pioneer member of the Peruvian Translators Association.

I absolutely appreciate that this book is structured in a way that makes it fit to be used as a lesson guide for an advanced or intermediate classroom setting and as a personal study guide for amateurs. The thematic categorization of the book is very commendable because it makes it easy for a reader to make references when needed. I also love the story and exercises features of the book.

I did not see anything to dislike about the book. It is well written, clearly structured, easy to understand and properly edited. Taking these into consideration, I give the book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to anyone who understands English language, has basic knowledge of Spanish language and is looking to improve on the conversational usage of the language.
