{i}Last Words from Above{/i} by Jeremy Brown is a collection of quotations gathered throughout a seven-year journey by the author, during this period, he published variety of books that were very popular within the Christian community. {i}Last Words from Above{/i} is the result of the travels, experiences, and the author’s search for spiritual enlightenment. The book, in essence, does not read as a narrative novel, rather it is a numbered collection of original quotations.

The positive aspects of this book, for myself personally, are few and far between. The writing was written in correct English and I did find that some of the quotes were relevant to particular life phases, in that they might be helpful to someone who is feeling lost or abandoned.

The negative aspects of this book, for me personally, greatly outweigh the positive. I found the book incredibly tedious and at times, repetitive. The layout of the book, that being simply a numbered list of quotations, made it particularly difficult to digest in a single setting, also the sheer number of quotations was overwhelming, there were over two thousand quotations to wade through, much of them stating similar points. I believe that had the book perhaps been written in a more narrative way, with more of a flow to it, or had it been broken into separate, more manageable books, it would have been easier to read. I personally did not enjoy this book.

My rating for this book is {b}2 out of 4 stars{/b}, I have given it this rating of fair due to the fact that although I did not enjoy reading it does not mean others will not. I gave the book this rating namely because I found it monotonous and very specifically directed towards the Christian community.

My recommendation for this book, with regards to a target audience, would most certainly be to those following the Christian religion, I do not recommend this book for everyone as it has very particular religious overtones. I do recommend it as a book for people of the Christian faith, as I believe they will find the quotations to be motivational and helpful, especially if they are going through a difficult period in their lives. I recommend this book to be read in intervals rather that in one go, as I think it would be better appreciated if picked up once a day and finding a few quotes relevant to you.
