Review of How To Be Successful
M. Curtis McCoy has faced and experienced so much in his life. Due to his great observations and conversational skills he managed to interview a lot of successful entrepreneurs and people who started from scratch. And this book How To Be Successful is all about the experiences to learn from. Every chapter is inspired by a certain element of success and all the things you need to know as you go. The learning opportunities, obstacles in life plus the way someone handled it with grace is the soul of the book.
There is a lot of knowledge and tips shared by people who've experienced tough times. If they can do it; you can do it. Each person that the author M. Curtis McCoy interviewed had a personal story to tell. It explains the process of success in a fair amount. We get to know: how successful people stand out, how they prefer to solve an issue, how they've embraced the business with their abilities that they once considered their weakness.
This book will definitely help you understand the patterns and behaviors of the successful entrepreneurs not in a psychological way though. It's always easier to believe the people who've been there who we want to be. Who would you believe? A person who's already successful or a person who's in the process of being. I think we all know the answer to this question.
Based on my experience I will give this book a 3 out of 4 stars. This is because I loved how I got to know the insights of successful entrepreneurs and their habits. As a bonus I did get some amazing book recommendations from each interview to read for a deeper understanding of self. And the fact that these people are no different than us, it's just their habits and preferences in life that make them stand out. I have to deduct one star because the content was too vague. I expected to know a little bit more when they talk about themselves so deeply and there's a little religious belief that doesn't make sense to me as God is different for everyone. For me, I'm an Atheist. I enjoyed reading the content but I didn't like God's point of view anywhere. So if you question God's existence from time to time, I guess you should read it without taking offense to what others believe may differ greatly from your opinion and I did just that. I read it in a neutral manner and soaked all the knowledge and left what didn't serve me.
I saved a lot of quotes from successful people to apply in my own life right away and without giving you any spoiler, this is my favorite line: Successful people discuss ideas and strategies while average people gossip and talk about events. So if you are looking for a book that can influence your life in more than a hundred ways because it's filled with knowledge and preferences of more than thirty already successful business people. I highly recommend it to the curious ones that want to know how someone got to where they are now. Perhaps this book is not for those who like fictional romance. This is a reality statement and people can actually benefit from the ideas. Let's get successful and think like a leader.
