It is easy to envision yourself doing things 100% your way, but in most cases, we find ourselves caught up in what others would think about us or what they will say, making this impossible. Beneath the Muscles dared me to be courageous, be true to myself and be willing to step up.

The book gives readers a combination of self-help and inspiration. However, the first chapters were more of Lauren Powers’s early days. Lauren Powers perfectly narrates her personal experiences in life, giving readers a better picture of what it takes to be successful and fearless.

I will admit that when I started reading the book in the first few chapters, I got the impression that the author is perfect and successful at everything she touches. However, as you keep on reading, you come to realize that she is human too. She has experienced failures in life. Additionally, she has also found herself in the down bottom where she had to make a concise life decision to stand up and change. These helped me immensely in reflecting on my life, dared me to be different and be a better version of myself.

I really loved the author’s positive tone in the book. You can tell that she is very true to herself and she is a strong and very determined woman. When reading, I tried to imagine how her friends feel when they are around her. Do they feel challenged? Motivated? Or do they all compliment each other? Maybe because birds of the same feather flock together! I can attest that if I were her friend, I would constantly be carrying a notebook and a pen because there is so much to learn from this lady, and maybe right now, I would be bold and confident when I walk because I know what I am capable of. I need this kind of friend in my life!

Excuses and fear have permanently blocked my road to success. I have always been in that comfort zone of playing safe mainly because of fear of the unknown. Additionally, not wanting anything that stresses my mind or gives me sleepless nights because I decided to dare myself to explore a different path, interest, and passions in life. This book gave me a rude awakening! There is so much to gain when you decide to get out of your comfort zone. If she can do that, why not me?

Unfortunately, as much as there were so many things to love about the book, I would say that the first chapters were not interesting. I did not know Lauren Powers, so when she talked about her education and early life in the first chapters, it did not capture my interest. However, I applaud myself for reading on because I did not miss out on the gems in the book.

I rate Beneath the Muscle by Lauren Powers 4 out of 4 stars mainly because it touched me in the deepest part of my heart. It was exceptionally edited and a great book to read no matter what time of the day or mood. Although the book was very engaging and hard to put down, I did not read it in one sitting because the information was so great that I needed to finish each chapter, digest what I have just read then move on to the next chapter.

In conclusion, I recommend this book to all readers, especially those looking for motivation and inspiration.
