The Ultimate Love by Sherine Anniruth is a book about the author’s journey with grief. The non-fictional work is centered around the aftermath of the passing of the author's son to whom the book was dedicated to. Aside from personal experience, the author also intends to provide the readers with an emotional connection, despite the struggle of loss, and words of guidance to help them in their journey of healing.

One thing that struck me the most as I read was the unconditional love a parent has for their child, and how such a love proves stronger even when the latter passes away. The author wrote with deep, heartfelt emotion and longing that it was difficult not to empathize with such feelings. The book also served as a bittersweet reminder to show your loved ones how much they matter to you while they are still alive and to honor those who have passed, especially through cherishing the memories you shared with them while they were alive.

Another thing I found to be meaningful is how the author described grief as a “you-process,” a personal one, and should therefore be treated with more respect and empathy. Through this the author was able to convey how important it is to be self-aware; to know that one must willingly acknowledge their state, no matter how cloudy and difficult it is to do so because of one’s given circumstances, and must intentionally choose the path to improvement.

In conclusion, I rate this book 4 stars out of 4. Aside from the minor errors I encountered, The Ultimate Love taught me gratitude, grief, and the beauty and pain that comes with loving wholeheartedly. Though I found it difficult to read the book at first, hence my slower than usual pacing, it was because the work itself evokes strong emotions from you that cause you to pause for a while to let the author's words sink in. And, in the long run, would help you love those who you hold dear the way a mother loves her child.

As the book talks about grief, I recommend The Ultimate Love to those going through such a state. It does not have to be the loss of a child, as long as it is someone or something you once loved but could no longer reach for, this book may resonate with you and help you on the path to healing.
