Review of Eggstravagant Easter Eggs
It is on Easter eve that the preparations are at their peak. Easter eggs are some of the major decorations used during this festive season but the major concern is as to how to decorate these eggs.
Eggstravagant Easter Eggs: Over 200 Ideas For Artistic Looking Eggs by Maya Elston Is a book that puts together all the art for making over 200 Easter egg designs for a perfect Easter decoration. The author explains the history behind egg painting in the introduction of the book. Egg painting has its meaning in each country. She explains how the easter eggs are displayed during the celebration. She talks about the choice of eggs, materials, tools, and equipment before she embarks on methods and decoration techniques for easter eggs. In the book, she notes down the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of eggs and the decorating technique used.
I expected to learn a lot of techniques from this book and I was surprised at the many decoration techniques there are. The book contains images for every decoration technique and method explained by the author. These images are very clear and some are provided from different points of view. Below each image, the author provides a brief description of the images presented. This aspect proves that not only can this book be read for entertainment but also as a quick reference book since the image subtitles provide a summary of the author's notes. The author also noted some of the mistakes she made so that others can avoid them.
This book contains a lot of information on every technique but she doesn't fail to include a sense of humor breaking the descriptive monotony. Maya Elston notes some of the minute details including the exact variety of materials to use on these projects. She also lists the examples of craft stores where she purchased the type of eggs that she used on her project. She doesn't leave out the websites where one can get the techniques well done. Anyone wishing to make egg decorations should consider going through this book. She also includes the meaning of some foreign words like Kolla(Greek) and decoupage from découper(french). I read the book in one sitting and did not find anything to dislike.
Due to the entertaining and educative content of the book, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I only found two grammatical errors in the book and I conclude that the book was professionally edited.
I recommend this book to all readers interested in doing this kind of art of making stylish easter eggs. I will however not recommend this book to children as the author also states that most of the procedures in the book are not for children. If any child would be interested in such procedures they should do so under adult supervision.
