Review of The MISOGI Method
Another self-help book on the shelf, “The Misogi Method” by Jody B. Miller, is practical, conversational and easy to read. As a fan of the self-help book, this book is highly recommended to read if you want to step out of your comfort zone and turn your life into happiness, success and full of long-lasting meaning. The book has four parts and thirteen chapters; the first two parts provide details about the Misogi method, such as the definition, benefits, kinds of misogi (ancient and modern-day Misogi). The other two provide details about how to find and do Misogi. Misogi Method, an ancient Japanese Shinto ritual of cold-water purification, purifies the soul, eliminates impurities, and renews and reborn. The author also defines the difference between traditions and rituals because understanding that difference will benefit your life for the better and long-term result.
While reading The Misogi Method , readers can feel like going on a journey that the author is their buddy that guides us step by step. She highlights each chapter’s steps and provides us with some worksheets and questions for self-actualisation. The author encourages the readers to write instead of using a tablet or electrical device. The most significant positive aspect, whereas the author, emphasises the benefits of writing so that the readers can have the motivation to work on the worksheet and question and spend less time looking at their phone. According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need Theory, self-actualisation is the most significant need. Her worksheets and questions are some self-knowing assessments that help us to reach this need. Hence, completing the assessments is essential for this journey.
Another positive aspect is that we can create our Misogi method that does not have to be physical in this modern time if the ancient one is not suitable. We can choose our Misogi based on the categories provided in the book, as long as it can take us way outside our comfort zone and we must have the calling to perform the particular act or ritual. However, there are some element rules of the modern-day method we need to follow. We will have more beliefs in the Misogi Method as she provides some interviews with successful people who have achieved their goals after using the method.
This book is for the age of 15 to 25 because people usually have difficulty discovering their goals and understanding themselves. In addition, based on the Techjury.net website article, this age group also has the highest rate of using electrical devices and smartphone. Therefore, after reading this book, they can enhance intelligence, increase creativity from writing by hand benefit, discover their goals, and understand themselves.
This book is time-consuming as we can not fill out all of the worksheets immediately. We need much time to think about ourselves and set our plans.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because of the long-term knowledge that I have achieved from this book. I appreciate the author for her time researching this Japanese ritual and being our buddy from the beginning to the end of the book. Everything is written and explained in detail at a slow pace, conversational style, and well-edited without being lengthy.
