Review of Jesus, Prosperity Gospel and Poverty in Africa
Poverty affects Africa and the rest of the world in so many ways. In most cases, the answer does not just rely on throwing money at the problem because it can be quite challenging for people who have been raised in poverty to break loose from these incredible gripping chains.
Jesus, Prosperity Gospel, and Poverty in Africa by Elijah Oladimeji takes you through different short stories based on real-life experiences. The pastor narrates his personal stories as well as that of his church members. In every chapter, there is something to learn, and through this book, you get a sense of reality, of the things that most people may be going through in life. They still manage to have faith and hope that God will always be with them no matter what.
Indeed poverty is quite a complicated subject and contributes to many things that happen in life and negatively affects the church. The author directly shows readers how poverty also affects the church in general.
I found Jesus, Prosperity Gospel, and Poverty in Africa to be a great book filled with insights and hope. Some of the things that the author mentions in most chapters are helpful that you can carry with you for the rest of your life. For example, he perfectly explains the giving of tithes in a short and interesting story while giving references to bible verses. I loved this approach. It helped me to understand and clear off doubts perfectly.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. This was an interesting read. The author had some great, powerful words. I also appreciate the fact that he puts us, the readers, perfectly in his shoes. Now I know pastors are humans too. When we have problems or need prayers, they are there for us. But who lifts them up when they are down, or when they also need prayers? They are people too!
I did not give the book 4 stars because I feel like it needs a bit of polishing, but generally, it was a good and unique Christian book.
I would recommend this book to Christians, especially those who are experiencing hard times in life. The book will motivate them and steer them in the right direction. Additionally, I would recommend this book to Christians looking for a quick read, and this is not to leave out the non-believers.
In conclusion, one thing's for sure, very few books can manage to change the world, and this book is no exception.
