Review by Oluwaseun Olafimihan -- How To Be Successful
[Following is a volunteer review of "How To Be Successful" by M. Curtis McCoy.]
How To Be Successful by M. Curtis McCoy was an inspirational book written to inspire the readers. McCoy was a boy of dreams. He has aspiration for greater things in life. As a young boy, he conceived different business ideas that at age 27 he owns many businesses in different industries.
The business was growing and doing well when he received a shock of his life. He was diagnosed for brain cancer by the oncologist and the worst part of the news was that he can only live for 2 to 3 more months before he dies.
With this report, Curtis strives for the best but over time his health deteriorate, and memory loss set in. He finds it hard to run the business because living independently was becoming difficult. The man did not give up and continue to put his little best in the business despite his condition as at that time. He was able to survive it through perseverance and even established several businesses in different industries. One of such business is the Best Cellular that was well-known in many nations.
The book is professionally written and edited. The book is fascinating and duly numbered and written in chapters. The choice of words used are simple and understandable. The book also tells us that success is not the end but the starting point for another greater things. If we can all emulate the success story of the author we can also be a successful person in life.
The book was written to inspire and encourage readers to strive for the best and persevere in life even if they encounter problems on the way to success. The book inspires the readers not only to be a successful business person but reveals the path an individual must thread to become a great and effective leader in life. Curtis enlighten people through the series of interviews he had with other entrepreneur. The secret of success was discovered based on the response given to the questions Curtis asked the interviewee. What I found interesting was that they all have different success story but have similar path to success. All the people Curtis interviewed became great leaders in their different endeavors.
I found the book interesting and therefore rated 4 out of 4 stars because I learnt a lot of lessons from the book. Curtis used his real-life success and failure to enlighten the readers. He made mention of perseverance in life as a tool to take a person to greater height. I wish the author to include more great women of success to his interview list, because aside his mother, Connie Wyatt, no other woman of success was interviewed. The book is a must-read for all teenagers and adults who need inspiration, encouragement, planning and motivation for better life in the future. The book is there to serve as a guide and path to follow to reach the top of the ladder.
